Day 12 Dunvegan Castle and Harry Potter Bridge

We left the south of the Isle of Sky by a short ferry ride to Mallaig then we motored down to the Dunvegan Castle.  Libraries have been written about the eternal feud between the MacDonald’s and the MacLeod’s in Scotland.  Their feuding started in the 15th century but you still better not wear the wrong color of kilt in a pub, if you are a minority.

Lots of killing over the centuries, for no reason other than land, power and greed.  Most battles were fought ‘pre-gunpowder’, (swords and arrows), so probably more bleeding than dying.  Except infection was a problem since nobody bathed back then.

We visited the Dunvegan castle today.  It was the residence of the MacLeod clan.  Not too impressive.  No photos were allowed inside, we actually enjoyed the grounds more.

Next we headed to the Neist Point and Lighthouse.  A good hike, interesting terrain.

The lighthouse below is hidden behind the mountain above.

The day ended at Glenfinnan.  The highlights here was the monument erected 201 years ago in tribute to the Jakobites and Bonnie Prince Charlie, and the now, ‘world famous’ viaduct, in the Harry Potter movies.

Finally,  we ate at a pub in Fort William tonight and in walks these three guys with their two huge dogs!  I'm getting used to this at Lowe's, but in a restaurant!?  The guy in front of, and to the right was clearly uncomfortable, especially since the one dog wouldn't lay down.  Later in the meal, they brought out a huge water bowl for the dogs to lap out of.........Oh, they weren't the only dogs in the pub.
